walking thirty meters out on to the ice of russia’s white sea, george karbus drilled a hole thirty centimeters deep and descended into the minus two degree celsius water. using the light from the aurora borealis, he photograph his girlfriend, kate hamsiaora, and, by chance, a passing belgua whale, who are by their nature very curious and friendly animals.
